Curriculum and Ordering Information

I have made this curriculum similar to what was done in the 18th and 19th century. Girls first worked on small pieces such as needlework accessories and small counted cross stitch projects that were often given as gifts to family and friends. Because these are small projects, they provide a sense of accomplishment.

During the first year course you will enjoy counted cross stitch by stitching some of the necessary needlework accessories such as a needle book, scissor holder, and work bag. Some of the other projects will include accessories for the American Girl doll, sampler-style book marks, potholders, Christmas ornaments, hair accessories, small samplers, and even something wonderful to give your family pet. All of my work is in the style of 18th and 19th century needlework. With each project I give the story of how it was used in the past. You won't believe some of the stories. They're amazing! The projects that we will stitch in the school are similar to all of my previous work (see my shop). Some of the designs for the year will come from Mary Beale's original Pocketbook Needlework.

There will be a total of 25 projects for the school year. You will receive a Reward of Merit upon completion of 3 of the 25 projects and if you send us pictures we will post your completed projects in the school room. Don't panic! I am not expecting you to stitch all of the charts I send you.

You can join the school at any point. You will find the projects that have been given out so far in the classroom when you arrive and then you will be caught up. It does not matter if you join late. This first year is your introduction to needlework so we are not building in difficulty from one project to the next. Every project will be similar in its degree of difficulty.

While finishing instructions are not a part of this curriculum, I will provide you with some excellent resources for finishing.
